Virginia Downs Poetry Award

The Virginia Downs Poetry Award was established by the family and friends of Virginia Downs (1916-1984), poet and George Mason graduate. It honors outstanding poetry written by George Mason students. This year’s award winners are:

  • Barbara Miller, “Writing with Alyson on My Lap”
  • Pat Sigel, “Pinning the Pattern”
  • Gary Moody, “Magdalen”
  • John Palmer, “Reminded of Former Habits”

Dan Rudy Fiction Prize

The Dan Rudy Fiction Prize was established by the family and friends of Dan Rudy (1974-1983), fiction writer and George Mason MFA candidate. It honors outstanding fiction written by George Mason students. This year’s award winner is:

  • Stacey Freed, “Letty Meeks”

Klappert-Ai Poetry Prize

The Klappert-Ai Poetry Prize was established this year (1988) by Gwendolyn Brooks, and named for the poets Peter Klappert and Ai. It honors outstanding poetry written by George Mason students. This year’s award winners are:
